A bit of history

Agadir was a small fishing port and an important commercial center in the region. It was also known for its trade with European countries, particularly Portugal and Spain. Over the centuries, the city has been influenced by various cultures and civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, and Portuguese.

The significant event in the history of Agadir occurred on February 29, 1960, when the city was devastated by an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale. The earthquake caused the collapse of a major part of the city, resulting in thousands of casualties and leaving thousands more homeless.

After the earthquake, Agadir was rebuilt on a new location slightly further south from its original location. The reconstruction of the city was supervised by the Moroccan authorities and was designed according to modern standards.
