Arvi Park: A Magical Escape to the Mountains of Medellin

Welcome to Medellin, Colombia, the city of eternal spring! I take you to a place that so many locals and tourists consider to be the number one attraction in Medellin. It's an incredible city with many wonders, but Arvi Park definitely takes a top spot in my top three places to visit. The unique experience of taking the cable car to reach this picturesque place is a must-see on your itinerary.

The Breathtaking Ascent by Cable Car

The climb begins at Acevedo station, located on the main line A of the metro rail network. From there we take the cable car lines which take us over the mountains to the park. A 30-minute ride offering breathtaking views of the entire city, making this experience an essential stop during your stay in Medellin.

A Journey in Two Steps

Join me on this adventure, where I am accompanied by my cousins and friends. The route includes two cable car sections. The first, a two-kilometer crossing from Acevedo to Santo Domingo station, takes about ten minutes. Then we change lines to the Parque Arvi line, a 4.6 kilometer leg that takes us to the park in another 15 to 20 minutes. The total duration of the trip varies from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the crowds and the time chosen to travel.

Tip: Avoid crowds by planning your visit during the week for a quicker and smoother experience.

Cost and Amenities of Travel

If you arrive at Acevedo station by train, the cable car ride from Acevedo to Santo Domingo is included in the price of the train ticket. However, for the Parque Arvi line from Santo Domingo station, you will have to pay extra of around 10,000 Colombian pesos, which is around US$2.50 in 2022.

From the first moment, you will understand why this trip is so popular. The elevated view offers a striking contrast between the different districts of the city. Later in the ride, the views of the mountains, forests and city below will be truly impressive.

Stop in Santo Domingo: A Taste of Wonders

At Santo Domingo station we change to the Parque Arvi line, offering the best views of the city and nature. Now is the perfect time to take out your camera and capture some exceptional photos. To the left of the station, a large covered market attracts attention, but before going there, I recommend heading to the right to take a photo with the famous sign “Yo amo Medellin” (I love Medellin) and discover the pretty garden nearby.

Mercado Arvi: A Market of Crafts and Flavors

The Mercado Arvi, or Arvi Market, is located in the immediate vicinity of the cable car station and is definitely worth a visit. With over 40 stalls offering local products such as clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, locally grown coffee, snacks and more, it's the perfect place to purchase unique souvenirs. Just behind the market, a magnificent garden full of hydrangeas offers you the opportunity for a relaxing picnic with friends.

From the market area, take this enclosed green corridor to the Environmental and Cultural Center, where you can learn about the history and archaeological sites of the area.

Explore Nature and History

While my friends were on a guided tour, I decided to leave the park, walk around, and fly my drone to capture some stunning images of this area. This is a truly exceptional place, highly recommended if you come to Medellin. The cable car ride alone is worth the detour! Take the time to explore the surroundings of the park, it's incredible, you'll love it!

Arvi Park: A Natural Paradise

Parque Arvi is part of a vast national forest of more than 39,500 acres, offering more than 86 kilometers of hiking trails. Although there are many hiking and adventure activities, this video focuses on the main tourist area closest to the metro station. However, I will return soon to show you more of the attractions of this exceptional area of Medellin.

Conclusion: An Unforgettable Adventure

This is the end of this getaway to Parque Arvi. Be sure to include it in your itinerary if you visit Medellin. Just 30 minutes from the city by cable car, the journey itself is impressive, offering spectacular views. Upon arrival, the park itself is exceptionally beautiful. Whether you opt for a guided tour or prefer to explore nature on your own, it's a breathtaking experience.
